Around the World in 98 Days
In February 2007, I embarked on an around the world trip that would take me over land and seas and across six continents. Please use the following guide to read my notes and view photos from each leg of the journey.

South America

First stop: Buenos Aires, Argentina. The main highlight from my few days in Buenos Aires was the Tango Festival. My next stop was Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, where I would board the Europa. Notes from South America

Antarctica and Across the Atlantic The Europa
The next leg of the trip included 53 days aboard the Europa, a 55-meter three mast tall ship, sailing from Ushuaia, South America to Cape Town, South Africa. Stops included several ports in Antarctica, South Georgia, and Tristan da Cunha, known as the most remote inhabited island on earth. Photos from The Europa

My notes from aboard the Europa are quite extensive and are organized into three  sections: March 19, March 31, April 26

For more information about the Europa, please visit The Europa Official Website.

Africa

Traveling by more traditional means – spending nearly 24 hours in flight – my wife, Jan, met me in Cape Town, South Africa. We visited Victoria Falls, the Chobe Game Reserve, the Okavango Delta, and Kruger National Park. We also spent several days in Johannesburg, South Africa. Notes from Africa

India

Next, I flew from Cape Town, South Africa, to New Delhi, India, with a layover in Frankfurt, Germany. This provided my only stop on the European continent; a technicality, yes, but I'll take it! I packed quite a bit of sightseeing into my two days in India, staying in New Delhi and visiting Old Delhi for the first time. Notes from India

Thailand and beyond...

The last leg of my journey took me to Thailand. Because it was the rainy season and the beach resorts were closed for the season, I spent a lot of time in the northern Udon Thani region of the country. I also squeezed in a fantastic, two-day side trip to Laos.
